Read the Blog, Eat the Meals: Oh My Veggies

You read their recipes. You drool over their photos. Now eat their food! We’re excited to be partnering with several of our favorite food blogs, delivering you some of their most popular meals through PlateJoy.

OhMyVeggies logoWhen I told my parents in middle school that I wanted to be a vegetarian, they grumbled about how hard it would be to make meals to satisfy everyone in the family. If only Oh My Veggies had existed then. Not only are their meals unfussy and uncomplicated, they also would make my whole family happy, vegetarians and carnivores alike. We especially love the site's "Make It Meatless" column, which transforms classic meals into veggie-friendly favorites, so you never feel like you're missing out on the meat.

We caught up with creator Kiersten Frase about her healthy eating philosophy and some of her favorite recipes, now available on PlateJoy.

What's your healthy eating philosophy?

Blogging has taught me that everyone defines the word healthy in different ways. For me, healthy means whole foods, lots of fruits and vegetables, and everything else in moderation.

How did you start cooking?

When I was a kid, I'd check out cookbooks from the library when other kids would be getting picture books! I loved cooking from a very young age, but I didn't start cooking on a regular basis until I moved out on my own.

pear_and_sharp_cheddar_grilled_cheese_sandwichTell us the story behind Oh My Veggies. How did it start and where has it gone since then?

I started Oh My Veggies as a place to share recipes and what was going on in my life and it evolved into a business. It's no longer my personal food blog - I work with several recipe developers, photographers, etc. It's crazy to think that this blog I started as a lark has turned into a job!

How do you treat yourself?

If I'm craving a brownie, I have a brownie. I think people drive themselves nuts trying to come up with healthy alternatives to every not-so-healthy food out there. Just eat a brownie!

You just got home and want to make yourself something quick and comforting. What do you go for?

It's impossible to go wrong with a grilled cheese sandwich. They're also a great way to use up whatever stray ingredients you have on hand.

What Oh My Veggies recipes are on PlateJoy?

They include favorites like: Chopped power salad with baked tofu, One-pot pasta primavera; Thai sweet potato nachos; Cauliflower hummus burger with mint tzatziki; and Pear and cheddar grilled cheese.
