Name: Stephanie

Weight loss (so far!): 33 lbs

PlateJoy plan:  A mix of Keto, Pre-Diabetes and Low Carb

What have been some of your biggest challenges to losing weight in the past? Sticking to a long term plan. I can do just about anything for a short period of time, but it is the long-term commitment that has eluded me time and time again!

When + how did you find out about PlateJoy? I have been on the hunt for a good meal planning app for years, and I finally found PlateJoy in the Google Play store. I try new apps all the time, and this time it really paid off! I liked the look of the app, and it seemed super easy to use. It also had a lot of the features that I was interested in, like reducing food waste, and customizable plans with shopping lists.

How has PlateJoy been different from other strategies you’ve tried? This is the first time meal planning has actually worked! I love that I can pick and choose recipes based on what I feel like eating/cooking, and then I can update my pantry as needed. I love that the recipes are chosen based on ingredients that are used, which not only reduces food waste, but I am also not wasting my money on multiple different kinds of food, or weird ingredients that I would only use for one recipe, and then throw the rest away.

What’s the biggest change you’ve made to your diet? I would say that I am actually cooking more, and using natural ingredients, versus just throwing together boxed or processed foods. I also have been able to really plan a meal-prep day, which is Sunday for me. PlateJoy makes this possible, with a shopping list I can use to shop the week before. I can even do some of the chopping and food prep before-hand, so that all I really need to do is cook on Sunday. No more wasting hours and hours scouring websites, coordinating ingredients, and making out long lists of prep and cooking times.

What other strategies have you been using to get to your weight loss goal? I use the Gaia yoga app, Workout Warriors, and Asana Rebel as my go-to workout apps. I walk on my breaks at work too. But I found that just by changing my eating habits, exercise was not as effective as eating healthy in regards to my weight loss. My husband has also been a great source of support. He helps me prep and cook, and even enjoys eating the meals with me! We have found a new way to love each other with food and cooking together. It’s amazing!

What plan are you on and what is your favorite PlateJoy meal?  Just one favorite PlateJoy meal? How about 3? Breakfast = Mango Coconut Crunch Granola, Lunch = Korean beef stir-fry bowls with rice, and Dinner = Seared chicken thighs with apples and roasted vegetables. mmmmmmmmm

What is the #1 piece of advice you would tell someone who is just starting out on their weight loss goal?  Start out slow, and keep it simple. Even if you just have 3 recipes that you eat for the full week, just do it. Just get yourself into the habit of making your own, healthy meals. Once you get into it, you won’t even notice that you have developed a new habit. (I was a dedicated non-cooker for most of my life, and I am now a daily cooking machine!) Just don’t quit. Stick to it.
